Tracking Progress and Results on Calls to Action

Tracking Progress and Results on Calls to Action

With managing your Volunteers, it is imperative that you have a clear understanding of your progress on every call to action. Tracking progress on your calls to action will allow you to understand what’s working, when it might be appropriate to shift tactics, and where you are having an impact. Empower has a number of great features for tracking progress on your calls to action and we will explore some of those in this article. We will conclude this article with some notes around why it’s important to follow-up with your volunteers about progress on calls to action.

Where Can I Track the Growth of My Organizing Program?

When you log into Empower, the home page should provide some helpful information on tracking progress on calls to action. You will be able to see:

  • New People - In addition to the total number of people

  • New Contacts - As well as all-time contacts

  • Overall Conversations - Both new and all-time

  • Active people - Also, the number of contacts on their list

  • New outreaches to Volunteers - And the number of organizers who made those outreaches

You can change the date range of this information by clicking the all time hyperlink and changing it to a different date range.

If you scroll down to the Total Growth section, you will also see a visualization of the size of your relational network. As you move your cursor across the visualization, you will see the number of Contacts, Volunteers, Organizers, and Directors at different points of the campaign. If you want to review the difference between these different roles, check out this article. When you are looking at this total growth information, one can look at the growth of your Volunteers and Contacts. Ideally, you would have your Contacts growing more rapidly than your Volunteers. This will demonstrate that each of your Volunteers is meeting and building relationships with groups of Contacts to spread their message.

Where Can I Track the Progress of Individual Organizers and Directors?

If you scroll down, you will be able to see every Organizer and Directors name. Then you will see the number of people downstream from them, the number of contacts downstream from them, the total number of conversations that their volunteers have hosted, and the number of outreaches to volunteers. If you scroll down to the entire organization, you will be able to see the overall results for people downstream, contacts downstream, conversations, and outreaches to volunteers. One important note on these numbers - the "Total" numbers on home page aren't the sum of the other numbers. This is because some people roll up to more than one parent (e.g. both an Organizer and a Director) or don't have a parent that they are assigned to.

If your organization is using Organizer to Volunteer Calls to Action, you can track their progress on these Calls to Action the same way that you would track progress for individual volunteers on their calls to action, as described in the next section.

Where Can I Track the Progress of Individual Volunteers?

You can also see how individuals are making progress on active calls to action.

  1. Click on People on the left hand side of the screen.
  2. Next to each person’s name, you will see their progress on current calls to action. Select the call to action from the dropdown that you want to see their progress on.

  1. If you click on the My Outreach List tab, you can see which Volunteers you are responsible for reaching out to. You can use this alongside the Suggested Outreach Task filter or the On List for Call to Action filter to find the Volunteers that are targeted by a certain task or Organizer Follow Up Call to Action, depending which type of outreach your organization is using.
